Pay Attention – Instruction from the Bible

The Bible is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. We cannot forget the words we read….or all will be forgotten.

It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off. (Hebrews 2:1)

Ground Zero Jerusalem

I live half way around the world from the Holy City – Jerusalem. Yet, what is happening there now and will happen will affect me… and you. In this Beyond Today program (recorded today)  insight in the how & why this city will be important to us is discussed.

Who Do You Think You Are?

Where did you come from?

Recently I watched a TV show on NBC called “Who Do You Think You Are?“. This was the first time I had seen the show. The show features a celebrity guest who wants to know more about where they came from… a journey to know more about their family tree.

From the NBC -Who Do You Think You Are? website:
“…follows some of today’s most beloved and iconic celebrities as they embark on personal journeys of self-discovery to trace their family trees….The search is one of surprising and deeply emotional encounters, resulting in one of the most compelling reality formats of recent years. During each episode, viewers will be taken on a personal and often mysterious quest following some of America’s best-known celebrities into their ancestral pasts, as they uncover stories of heroism and tragedy, love and betrayal, secrets and intrigue, that lie at the heart of their family history… As each celebrity discovers his or her unknown relatives – most of whom overcame hard times – the show will take viewers back through world history to expose how the lives of everyone’s collective ancestors have shaped our world today.”

The title of the program got me thinking about that question… who do you think you are? I think we all have wrestled with the question to know where we came from and where we are going…from an individual perspective and a much larger global perspective. Where did we come from? What were their stories? – And where are we going? And what will our future stories be?

The Apostle Paul sheds some insight into answering this question when addressing the men of Athens in Acts 17: 24-31.

24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. 26 From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.

27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29 And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.

30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. 31 For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” (New Living Translation)

Footstraps – Helping Me to Stay On

A recently got a new MBS MountainBoard complete with velco MBS footstraps. This is my first MB to own and looking forward to riding down some hills in the area. I like to snowboard and thought this would be a good substitute since I am not able to snowboard (lift tickets cost too much and I don’t live in area that is a known skiing/snowboard mecca – but I could drive too some).

Its interesting to note that both the snowboard and mountain board both have “footstraps” (well the snowboard has bindings – but serve the same purpose) – the “straps” keep you attached to the board. Without being attached to the board it would be much harder to control yourself going down the steep slopes or hills.

Wouldn’t it be nice if our life(board) had footstraps – to help us stay attached to life and in control? I think most of us feel out of control on our “board of life”… how about attaching some straps to our daily life (board). Maybe its time to strap your feet into some new DBS straps – Daily Bible Study.
